TRANSIT THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE
IMPROVING THE WAY WE MOVE AROUND SAN DIEGO
Transportation is an area where the City will work with our regional transportation and planning agencies to have a huge impact. We can have transit that is competitive with cars and allows San Diegans to move throughout our region. We can connect the airport to employment centers and areas where people live. SANDAG and MTS currently are rethinking how we move around our region, and I am highly supportive of securing additional funds for MTS.
Here are some transportation projects CHRIS will champion:
El Cajon Blvd. Transit lanes exclusively for bus rapid transit
University Ave from the Georgia Street bridge to 30th Street. Only one lane of traffic, dedicated bus/bike lane, landscaped median
30th Street Protected Bikeway
Chris’s Transportation Priorities:
More Light Rail Transit projects
Safe intersections (Vision Zero to eliminate pedestrian traffic deaths)
More regional and local bicycle projects
Incentivized employer and developer transit programs
Bike Sharing and Scooter Sharing, including safety regulations like speed limiters based on GPS in certain areas like the Boardwalks and Balboa Park
Smart Parking Policies like more parking districts. They encourage turnover of spots and also raise important funds for projects like the Normal Street Promenade, and parking structures to offset the repurposing of on-street parking for other priorities like protected bike lanes
Streets should only get resurfacing money if they also incorporate pedestrian/bike/transit promoting features simultaneously. Let’s maximize our public dollars and tackle our climate change goals.
