Housing

MAKING HOUSING MORE AFFORDABLE IN SAN DIEGO

10.png

So many working families in San Diego are feeling the pinch as skyrocketing prices for housing and rent have created displacement and a larger share of income going towards housing costs.

Affordable Housing policies (in-lieu fee, inclusionary affordable housing)

    • Support for on-site inclusionary housing and support for increased density bonuses for developers willing to provide it

    • Support for on-site as a first choice, but also understanding that every project is different.

We need to update the in-lieu fee for developments who prefer to contribute to the City’s affordable housing funds so that enough funds for affordable housing can be generated to construct units.

DeNSITY WHERE IT MAKES SENSE

Let’s build density next to transit, where it makes sense.

We cannot achieve our goals related to climate change without density. Density achieves climate goals because it allows transit to be viable, and it has a far less significant impact on the environment than urban sprawl.

  • Vibrant neighborhoods can welcome more neighbors

  • Promotes economic development with more business for commercial areas

Developers must do more than just “not provide parking.” The City should incentivize them to provide MTS passes, bike parking.

We should regulate Short Term Vacation Rentals (STVRs) to ensure that more housing is made available for working San Diegans.
